There are no defined rules to making this seasoning, but the herbs that are normally used are basil, rosemary, thyme and oregano. These herbs are popular because of their herby flavours that blends so well with garlic.
This is a great seasoning to use as it can be cooked with a wide range of meats and other dishes. It works really well just grilling, roasting or pan frying. Try it with some of these foods - chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, vegetables and also delicious with pasta dishes.
I like to keep things nice and easy when using this seasoning. I really enjoy it baked on chicken breast with some potatoes with a few fresh steamed vegetables to keep it all company. Take a look at the recipe below.
Serves 4 people
4 large skinned chicken breasts
1kg peeled and quartered potatoes
3 tablespoons garlic herb seasoning
7-8 tablespoons of butter (melted)
Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper
First pre heat your oven to 190°C or 375°F , then take a large roasting tray and grease it with some butter.
Put the melted butter and the herb seasoning into a large bowl and mix together, then add the chicken to it. Make sure they are completely coated. Place them in the roasting tray. Add the potatoes to the tray and brush the rest of the butter onto them.
Sprinkle a nice pinch of salt and a good grind or pepper over the potatoes and the chicken.
Leave to cook in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked and the potatoes are soft enough to eat.
Serve with some fresh steamed vegetables and maybe some chicken gravy or sauce.
